It’s a rainy Thursday evening of May, and I am sitting on my couch listening to some 70s Soul music, sipping some wine, and eating some patties (also writing this, haha). A nice calm afternoon after what was a busy day at work. This is what I call the point of life. Me, enjoying the last hours of the day, doing what I want, what I like and what makes me feel at peace; living in my own terms without care of what other people may think. Life is not always this calm, so I tend to make every moment count.
I just turned 25, and although I have always considered myself a happy person, I have not always enjoyed the “moment” this much. I guess it’s a part of growing up? I do not really know. What I do know is that time does not wait on anyone. Time will go past you whether you are having a good life or not, whether you like it or not. Hence, why not make the best of it all the time? As long as you recognize the difficult times and understand they will pass, you will be alright. If you are in a bad situation right now, try to find the positive, find the way out, even if it seems nearly impossible. That’s what I do. That’s what my grandma taught me. Allow yourself to be down but not to the point of drowning yourself either. Find the coping mechanism that works best for you.
Most importantly, look around you and appreciate what you DO have. You got YOURSELF, and some pure air you can breathe. It’s honestly all you need. If you are really, really lucky and fortunate, you also got your family, a roof over your head, food, and some friends. I would say you got all it takes. The rest is irrelevant. Regardless of the chaos, try to find one good thing on the day, something that makes you stop and feel you are ALIVE. It could be admiring nature, laughing for a bit, sharing with someone you love, anything. I started applying this philosophy some time ago, and it truly allows you to put things in perspective. Even if your day goes sideways, you will have one good thing to reflect on at the end of the day. It helps you appreciate what you have. For me, that’s what life is about.
These creatures only seem to run
Using their limited time just to grunt
Always agitated, even past sundown
If only they would look around.

They’re too busy to look up
Someone please tell them to stop
To admire the beauty of the skies,
To appreciate life with their eyes.

Slow down lovely souls
Smell the rain as it pours
Listen to the birds,
Listen to your inner self
Relish the gift of life
Tomorrow is uncertain, be ALIVE
